Recent praise

Below are a couple recent things people have told me about my work, which I’ll keep anonymous. Do I sound like I’m bragging? Well, they’re sharing ways I served others.

About my new book, Initiative, launching next month:

“Whether leading or following, you need to read Initiative. I have long yearned for such a book—the most clear and persuasive on personal development and leadership I’ve found in 60 years of adulthood. Spodek’s focus on initiative and reflection matches what I found effective serving in and leading organizations from a few people to over 15,000 Marines and Sailors. He illustrates key ideas with meaningful examples and helpful practical exercises. it’s lucid, succinct, easy to read, and deeply profound. It has earned a prominent place in my library.”

About my course, Leadership Step by Step, which I taught this semester at NYU:

“You were right – this was the best course I ever took at NYU. There is no substitute for doing the exercises. Thinking I understand a concept and actually trying to execute the concept was difficult. Only in working through the exercises was I able to be aware of what I am currently doing. With these exercises, I now have a roadmap for how to be the kind of person I want to be. Thank you for changing my life for the better!”

About my podcast, from a guest:

“I just listened to our conversation. I’ve done about a dozen of these . . . and our discussion was by far the best, the deepest, the most meaningful, and you allowed me the space and attitude to answer very openly and accurately my thoughts. Thank you!”

From the host of a podcast I was on:

“And thanks for such a great episode. I haven’t stopped talking about it since I published it. I didn’t realize until editing (which is typical), how great it was. You nailed it!”

For my cooking:

I cooked for about 25 people at Lululemon Monday for Earth Day. Sorry, I only got verbal feedback, but they ate every drop of famous no-packaging vegetable stew I cooked.
