Hi Josh,
I just listened to a lecture you gave on business in the DPRK. I must say that I was impressed by your perspective. But, the lecture was incomplete. As someone interested in doing business in the Rason SEZ. I need to hear more. What should I do to experience the whole lecture?
Sadly the recording of the second half of that talk got lost. Most of the lecture is from my book (minus the questions and answers). Much of the book first appeared in a series of posts on this page starting here — https://joshuaspodek.com/north-korea-strategy-preview — where it’s free, but less edited. Please take a look. If you have specific questions or want to schedule a talk, please feel free to ask them here or to email.
I find the situation there tremendously interesting and different from how it’s portrayed in mainstream media.
Hi, Joshua.. It’s actually my first time reading your blog about North Korea and I am listening to your podcast on your visit to North Korea now. You mentioned that you’re going to North Korea this year. Did you manage to go? If you do, are you going to do another podcast or report on your recent visit?
I went to North Korea twice — once around August 2011 and again April 2012.
I’ve written about both trips. If you search under the category “North Korea” — https://joshuaspodek.com/category/northkorea (or just click the “North Korea” page at the top), you’ll get a list of all my North Korea posts.
I took a lot of video on the second trip — some of it life-changing and mind-blowing, at least to me. Who would have expected I could high-five, shake hands, and exchange laughs with groups of North Korean soldiers? Some people get angry and engaging the “enemy,” but I believe such exchanges and getting to interact face to face do more to bring about peace and understanding more than anything I see politicians doing. Well, I write more about that in my book.
I’ll post those videos eventually. In the meantime, please enjoy the other posts and ask questions if you have any.
