He is Vice President, Chief Experience Officer at the University of Maryland Medical System.
He serves as Vice President and Chief Experience Officer for UMMS, leading the System’s patient experience program in serving and partnering with patients and families. Previously, he served as Vice President, Patient Experience at the University of Maryland Medical Center.
He received his B.A. in art history from Vassar College before attending Temple University School of Medicine. His training in medicine, pulmonary and critical care was completed at the University of Pennsylvania, where he also received a master’s degree in clinical epidemiology.
As a member of the University of Maryland School of Medicine faculty, he has authored or co-authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications and a dozen book chapters. Dr. Netzer is the editor of the first book dedicated to the subject of families in the ICU; the second edition is now in preparation. His advocacy includes co-authorship of the Society of Critical Care Medicine’s inaugural guidelines on family-centered ICU care; he now serves as Co-Vice Chair for its next edition. Dr. Netzer continues his clinical practice, attending in the Medical Intensive Care Unit.
