Rich people eating in garbage

Prince Street Pizza is one of New York City’s highest rated pizzas. They literally have customers eat off their garbage cans.

And yes, literally, not figuratively. Here are its customers eating their pizza off their garbage cans.

My point is not to denigrate one pizza place, though it is responsible for its garbage actions, as are its garbage customers. No one is forcing anyone to serve or eat their pizza amid stinking garbage. My point is to point out how much our global culture has become inured itself to living in garbage. Prince Street is in Soho, one of Manhattan’s richest neighborhoods. Manhattan is one of the world’s richest places.

(I looked up inure to make sure. It looks right: “To habituate to something undesirable, especially by prolonged subjection; accustom.” That’s our culture and garbage.)

These places are huge tourist destinations. The richest people in the world live and eat in garbage. People fly around the world to eat in garbage.

Reviewers on all the ratings places give it overwhelmingly 5-star reviews.

Here’s a Yelp review:

This is my favorite pizza in the whole City with the kindest workers. Their food is great, no pretense. Standing room only unless you can get a table outside on a nice day. Love!!!

Pro tip – get an extra cup of sauce on the side

How ironic! “Standing room only unless you can get a table outside” … or an outside garbage can!

Here’s a review from Tripadvisor:

Absolutely Unbelievable The best pizza I have ever had we had three slices, a vodka, a spicy pepperoni and another type of pepperoni. The server was an absolute gent such a lovely man. Quick and efficient and absolutely delicious.

What goes better the best pizza you’ve ever had than the smell of garbage wafting up from the garbage can your “absolutely unbelievable” slices are sitting on.

Again, my point isn’t pizza. It’s our culture. We have produce so much garbage we can’t keep it away from our dinner table. It has become our dinner table.
