Bruce Robertson and Milad Mousavian

Bruce and Milad work with the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA) examines issues related to energy markets, trends, and policies. The Institute’s mission is to accelerate the transition to a diverse, sustainable and profitable energy economy.

They published a report that underperforming carbon capture projects considerably outnumber successful projects globally, and by large margins, with both the technology and regulatory framework found wanting.

The report, The Carbon Capture Crux – Lessons Learned, studied 13 flagship large-scale carbon capture and storage/carbon capture utilisation and storage projects in the natural gas, industrial and power sectors in terms of their history, economics and performance. These projects account for around 55% of the total current operational capacity worldwide.

Bruce Robertson has been an investment analyst, fund manager and professional investor for over 36 years. He has worked with Perpetual Trustees, UBS, Nippon Life Insurance and BT. He has appeared as an expert witness before a number of government enquiries into energy issues.

Milad is currently a senior analyst with the Climateworks Centre in Australia and former energy analyst with IEEFA. His roles have included supporting research and initiatives through the application of system thinking and analytical modelling in order to develop expertise on the dynamics of climate and energy policy. Having a Master’s in economics from the University of Melbourne and in energy systems planning, he has been conducting research on renewable energy, emission trajectories and carbon capture and storage.

Milad also was a former semi-professional basketball player and a fan of blitz chess and ambient music.
