More gratuitous destruction of life, liberty, and property in my neighborhood

Following up July’s post on The social cost of gratuitous plunder and destruction of life, liberty, and property, here are more examples of people flouting the US Constitution’s claim to protect citizens from being deprived of life, liberty, and property. Pollution and depletion aren’t victimless crimes. They hurt everyone.

Let’s start with the venue I did the last post American Bar, again blasting the outdoors with air conditioning nobody benefits from but everyone pays for:

Apollo Garbage

Next, a bagel store that saves money for rent by not having places for people to sit indoors, sending them outside with too much packaging. Their bags and containers litter (literally) my whole neighborhood. They also save money by not collecting the waste they send out with people.

Bleecker Street Pizza Garbage

Next, a pizza shop whose product is garbage. I did a post on how much pizza garbage covers my neighborhood in I love where I live but it’s being destroyed, part 1: Takeout instead of food.

A restaurant heating the outdoors

American Bar is cooling the outdoors. This other restaurant is heating it, also for no benefit to anyone but everyone paying the price:

No Kings garbage

The rest of the day after the No Kings protests, my neighborhood was covered with garbage people brought to the event and left. I covered how this waste is imperialist in Are Plastic and Pollution Imperialism? If not, why not? I guess they want to stop others from lording over people while they do it themselves, utterly needlessly.

I was in a hurry that day so only took a couple pictures of the No Kings garbage, but there was a lot. What a jerk move by each protester who littered.

Tashkent garbage

Tashkent is a city. It’s also the name of a takeout place with seating for can you guess how many?

If you guessed zero, you’re right. They became the biggest source of garbage in Washington Square Park and the block between the store and the park nearly overnight. They give out bags, containers, and plastic silverware that will last longer than the Roman Empire to everyone. We all have to live with it.

NYU Library garbage

Outside NYU’s main library, spewing gas from their motors and grills, are these trucks, serving doof in disposable containers wrapped in too many bags with too much plasticware. It’s enough to make one want to vomit.

Eco Garbage

How could I not take a picture of this bin spilling garbage into public space and it’s marked “ECO BINS.”

What a tragic irony for garbage to be labelled “eco.” Then again, since everyone does it, why not?

I guess not to violate the US Constitution would seem a good idea, but I guess our culture puts not violating the US Constitution out of mainstream consideration. You wouldn’t believe how many people act like the cop in Casablanca (“I am shocked SHOCKED to find that gambling is going on in here”), only they fake being shocked that their plastic or jet exhaust also ends up hurting people. Who would have thought?
