Entrepreneurial Leadership: Leadership in Starting a New Business
Effective leadership is of vital importance at all stages of a business. Particularly to a new venture, have you thought of the impact of leadership on transforming an innovative idea into a successful business? Do you know what particular leadership skills are key to building a start-up? Are you curious about what leadership lessons successful entrepreneurs have learned from their own experiences? This event provides you with an opportunity to interact with a panel of five successful entrepreneurs from diverse industrial and educational backgrounds. Their insightful discussion and advice on entrepreneurial leadership will help accelerate the success of your new business through effective leadership.

Joshua Spodek, PhD, MBA (CBS ‘06), Adjunct Professor in Leadership at NYU –
Joshua Spodek is an Adjunct Professor at NYU, leadership coach and workshop leader for Columbia Business School, and Columnist for Inc. He has led seminars in leadership, entrepreneurship, creativity, sales, strategy, and motivation at prestigious universities, such as Columbia, Harvard, MIT, as well as in private corporations. He holds five Ivy-League degrees, including a PhD in Astrophysics and an MBA. He co-founded and led as CEO or COO several ventures, and holds six patents. |
Bob Dorf, Entrepreneur in Residence at CBS Lang Center, former CBS Adjunct Professor in Entrepreneurship - Bob Dorf is one of the most knowledgeable Lean Startup and Customer Development experts on the planet and a co-author of Amazon.com’s #1 Business/Entrepreneurship bestseller, The Startup Owner’s Manual: The Step-by-Step Guide for Building a Great Company. Bob taught startup methods at CBS for five years, and currently serves as an Entrepreneur in Residence at CBS’ Lang Center. During his 40-plus years of entrepreneur career, Bob has coached scores of CBS-born and international startups and personally founded seven companies. |
Mark Fasciano, PhD, Co-founder/CEO of Clarapath - Mark Fasciano, a winner of Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year award in 2000, is the co-founder/CEO of Clarapath, a spin-out from Cold Spring Harbor Labs, whose mission is to automate and digitize histopathology. Prior to Clarapath, Mark was a Managing Director in Canrock Ventures, an early-stage, incubating technology venture fund where he helped launch and fund five technology companies. Mark was also the co-founder/CEO of FatWire Software, a leading Web Content & Experience Management software provider with over 400 customers globally. The company was bought by Oracle for $163M. Mark received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Chicago. |
Peter Moustakerski, MBA (CBS ’04), Founder & Chief Cacao Nut at Voilà Chocolat – Peter is a visionary entrepreneur with a lifelong passion for chocolate. After co-founding and running a confectionary company in China for 10 years, he earned his MBA from Columbia and had a long and successful corporate career before going back to school to become a certified chocolatier. As the founder of Voilà Chocolat in NYC, Peter is passionate about bringing everyone the opportunity to experience for themselves the joy and magic of chocolatiering. |
Spike Willcocks, PhD, Co-founder/Vice President of Business & Corporate Development at Oxford Nanopore Technologies - Spike Willcocks co-founded Oxford Nanopore Technologies in May 2005 as a spin out from the University of Oxford. Since formation, Spike has been instrumental in helping the company grow to 280 employees, raise over £250m, build its technology platform and launch its first product, a unique electronic DNA sequencing device. Prior to Oxford Nanopore, Spike worked for IP Group Plc, joining as one of its initial members as a start up within the European Investment Bank, Beeson Gregory Plc, following its landmark deal with the Chemistry Department at Oxford. He holds a PhD in Chemistry from Oxford. |
