How I read books I disagree with

  • Post category:Nonjudgment

I read a lot of books I disagree with or am skeptical of. How else would I expect to learn? How else can I expect to develop compassion or empathy?

I consider reading them at all important. I consider how I read them equally important.

No matter how much I disagree with what I expect to find before reading them, I read them with my mind open to finding out I was wrong and they’re right.

Why?

I believe that if I don’t read them open to being persuaded then I won’t be able to write so people will be open to being persuaded by me.

Likewise, I believe that if I don’t listen to people open to being persuaded then I won’t be able to speak so people will be open to being persuaded by me.
