Abandoning King’s Dream on His Holiday?

on January 16, 2017 in Blog

Walking to class today, Martin Luther King Junior Day, I saw this sign on Sixth Avenue, saying, simply, “I’m Sorry. — White People”. It doesn’t make sense to me except to judge people by the color of their skin and not the content of their character. Maybe there’s some context where it makes sense and doesn’t abandon what King called for. Can anyone make more sense of it?

All the candidates and all the voters knew the rules of the election years ahead. Winning the election means getting more electoral college votes. Those are the rules. Nobody campaigned to get[…] Keep reading →

on October 27, 2016 in Blog

Economists always claim that we need populations to grow for economies to grow, which they seem to regard as a necessity. I’ve never understood why growth is necessary, when what we need is to distribute life’s necessities—food, water, shelter, etc—among people.
