What do I do?

on May 3, 2011 in Blog

Do you want to live a life of the emotions you want — happiness, joy, whatever — freedom, and achievement? Then do what you love. If you believe you have to sacrifice what you love “to be practical” or “pragmatic,” you are your own biggest obstacle. My life is a testament to the contrary. If you don’t know what you love, find out. If you don’t know how to find[…] Keep reading →

Working on art

on April 22, 2011 in Art, Blog, Creativity

When you feel like a superhero it’s hard not to indulge in sharing why you feel so great. Solving technical problems makes you feel like a genius when you get it. I’ve had two days straight of amazing progress. One thing after another fell into place. It all took a lot of research, trial and error, moving step-by-step, not biting off too much at a time. Most of that was[…] Keep reading →

More rapid life-level changes and an origin of this blog

on April 11, 2011 in Awareness, Blog, Education

Another example of a significant life-level change that happened almost instantly came from my performing in Follies in business school. You are capable of the same level of change. The scene was my second semester of business school. I had not performed on stage since third grade, thinking I didn’t want to, thoughtlessly continuing my third grade rebellious streak. When a friend told me he was thinking about joining the[…] Keep reading →

The value of looking for solutions over looking for problems

on April 10, 2011 in Awareness, Blog, Freedom, Tips

Some people look for problems; others look for solutions. The problem, to me, with people who look for problems is that they can get good at it. When you’re with them, you may find yourself surrounded by problems you never would have found otherwise. What I like about people who look for solutions is that they find them. When you are with them, you tend to enjoy yourself, unaware that[…] Keep reading →

Personal development doesn’t have to take years

on April 6, 2011 in Awareness, Blog, Freedom, Tips

Myth: great personal change or development takes time. You have to understand where you are, your goals, and how to get from one place to the other. Myth: great personal change is hard. You have to overcome hurdles that take time, energy, and other resources. I believed those myths for a long time. I hear people counseling others with them all the time. Now it pains me to hear those[…] Keep reading →

The fun side of raw food

on April 1, 2011 in Blog, Education, Fitness, Humor, Nature

One of my raw food friends met these guys who call themselves the Raw Brahs (sounds like Raw Bro’s). They make goofy, funny, informative videos about eating raw food, being buff, living a life of abundance, and having fun. They eat tons of food, mostly fruits and vegetables, and are seriously buff. I watched them videotape their antics at a McDonalds in Union Square, which they made fun of. In[…] Keep reading →

Another way to decrease stress, part II

on March 28, 2011 in Awareness, Blog, Tips

This morning put me on the receiving end of someone treating me well in what otherwise would have been a difficult situation, revealing why the advice from my first “How do you decrease stress?” post works so well for me. I mis-timed an appointment. I spoke to the guy I was meeting about ten minutes after it was supposed to have started and arrived twenty minutes after that. He was[…] Keep reading →

My April creativity talk at Fred in Brooklyn

on March 27, 2011 in Art, Blog, Creativity, Education

I’m speaking on creativity at the next Fred Talk, April 10. Please come! A longtime friend emailed me after she went to the last one (I was out of town) telling me my talk was announced. Fred talks are do-it-yourself Ted talks with the slogan “Your friends’ ideas worth spreading.” Who says you need some huge conference for thousands of people that costs lots of money? You probably learned more[…] Keep reading →
